Blog – Lucy and Dave’s Wedding

Back on the 8th July 2017 we had the pleasure of hosting Lucy and Dave’s romantic outdoor summer wedding. The ceremony was perfectly located in the elegant surroundings under our lodge pagoda and our stunning bride and groom enjoyed a view of our pretty wildlife pond teeming with life in a relaxing haven of peace.

Gorgeous bride Lucy looked stunning in her intricately beaded and strapless dress with a delicately draped veil adding a traditional touch to her look by Prudence Gowns.

Bright and summery colours were used to style their day including bold yellows and fresh blues which added a colourful touch to the day. The traditional English flowers by Flower Scene; gorgeous yellow sunflowers and beautiful blue hydrangeas completed the stunningly designed day and matched the brightly dressed guests.

After the ceremony guests helped themselves to handfuls of dried petals creating a welcoming confetti aisle leading to the courtyard, where celebratory drinks of summery Pimms were enjoyed in the beautiful sunshine. The perfectly matched couple and proud guests relaxed on straw bales soaking up the sun rays and were able to take full advantage of the plentiful beauty spots around our stunning grounds, creating some fantastic photographic memories taken by talented photographer Jodie Hardwick at SmileyHappy Photos.

It was then time for guests to take their seats in the stunning Tipis provided by the Cornish Tent Company. The couple enjoyed spending time with family and friends laughing and joking during their delicious dinner provided by The Good Food Catering Company starting with sharing platters consisting of chorizo sausages, serrano ham and spinach tortilla bites followed by the main course of salmon fillets, Moroccan style roasted lamb and chicken prosciutto accompanied with roasted new potatoes and salads. It was also a time for reflection and joy, surrounded by their closest friends.

The wedding cake provided by Centrepiece Cakes, Plymouth which comprised of one chocolate, one carrot and one lemon was served as desert with tea and coffee and topped with beautiful bright sunflowers.

The evening entertainment was provided by local ‘retro-covers’ band ‘The Breaks’ who carried on until the stars lit the dark summer night sky before guests retreated to their accommodation after a breathtakingly beautiful and joy-filled day.

We couldn’t have hoped for a better day, filled with romance and laughter… even the weather behaved itself!

“We just wanted to say a massive thank you for all your hard work in making our wedding the success it was. We had such an amazing time staying at Ta Mill, and we could not have dreamt it going any better than it did (even the weather played ball).

You worked tirelessly to make sure everything ran like clockwork, and had the feel that we wanted.

Many many thanks again”

Blog – Nic and Gaz’s Wedding

On the May bank holiday weekend of this year we were honoured to be hosting Nic and Gaz O’Brien’s beautiful marriage ceremony and wedding celebrations.

We were delighted to be able to offer the perfect location for the outdoor wedding of their dreams, surrounded by their loved ones and the Cornish countryside on the late April day. After the gorgeous bride and her handsome groom said their heartfelt vows, they could walk back down the aisle hand-in-hand, looking out at the backdrop to their special day – our pretty wildlife pond. The resident moorhens and mallard ducks watched the romantic display with interest, while the towering green trees and blooming flowers framed the event.

The bridesmaids wore elegant dark blue dresses with peacock detailing that set off the lovely yellow bouquets perfectly. But the star of the day was the bride who walked down the aisle looking stunning in an exquisite gown with a sheer embellished-lace back, and pretty pale-coloured roses decorating her up-do.

Everyone enjoyed celebratory drinks garnished with raspberries and wandered the grounds, taking in the romantic setting. After making the most of Ta Mill’s photo opportunities with the wonderful UpArt Photography the guests were treated to toasts and speeches in the courtyard before celebrating the union of two families in the courtyard room.

Although the couple are based in the South West guests came from all parts of the UK including the groom’s family from Warwickshire.  They all tucked into a Cornish-set wedding which they cleverly emphasised with their location-based table names from all over the region.

The room was decorated in a way that reflected the bride and groom’s joy for their special day with bright delicate flowers on every table, provided by St Mellion Flowers and bold multi-coloured bunting streamed along the ceiling. Along with flowers, each table had a generous offering of food at its centre, with bread and cheeses and pickles galore (and much more!).

The wedding cake complimented their bright but delicate colour theme, an understated white iced treat adorned with lemon roses and daffodils that served to delightfully top the cake.

Nic and Gaz had a beautifully sweet wedding day that also celebrated their shared love for the South West and their love of the outdoors. The bright colour scheme was enough to make us smile but what really touched our hearts was the smiles the bride, groom and all of their guests were wearing for the entire special day.

Blog – Issy and Dirk’s Wedding

We were delighted to host and be part of yet another beautiful wedding day that will forever remain a happy memory. The lovely couple spent their special day with us at Ta Mill in what turned out to be the most lovely, sunny day.

The day started with the arrival of the guests, who arrived in a vintage, Cornish bus that rumbled down the lane with wedding ribbon on the front. The guests then enjoyed Champagne and Canapés in Ta Mill’s paved yard with hay bales to sit on. The bride looked absolutely stunning in her lace dress and bouquet of white roses.

After the ceremony the bride and groom welcomed their nearest and dearest to celebrate with them in a wonderful Tee Pee Tent, supplied by The Cornish Tent Company that was lit with magical fairy lights wound around the tents rustic beams, creating a breathtaking atmosphere.

Each table was beautifully decorated with a jar of lovely wild spring flowers and white balloons strung by a garland of ivy. The most inventive and meaningful touch to the wedding breakfast, however, was, of course, the timeline that made its way throughout the tent, sharing their most important life events with their guests on each table, everything from when they first met in 2001 to their first trip to Thailand in 2004.

The guests enjoyed a sumptuous beef banquet that was catered by the very lovely Derek and Ding from Event Cuisine who cooked up a wedding breakfast that is sure to be remembered. The meal was topped off with mini cheesecakes, apple crumbles and chocolate mousses. Issy and Dirk also celebrated their wedding day with the most beautiful naked wedding cake covered in a delicious variety of juicy berries, a stunning creation. This was enjoyed in the evening along with cheese and grapes and of course a dance.

But all the fun wasn’t just for the adults, Issy and Dirk thought of everyone including the children, by planning a kids party to keep them happily entertained. The party took place in the Ta Mill’s bunting-filled dining room, where lots of fun was had with colouring books and their very own food and drink that arrived in farmyard themed boxes. The fun carried on into the gardens where the children could explore Ta Mill’s orchard and pond, as well as play games on the grass in the sunshine. It’s safe to say the children were very happy and thoroughly entertained, as were their parents.

Issy and Dirk’s day was certainly something very special and we were honoured to be part it. We wish this very lovely couple a long and happy life together.

Blog – Andy & Rebecca’s Wedding

In October 2016, we were honoured to host the beautiful Autumn wedding of Andy and Rebecca Herring, in Ta Mill’s secluded Cornish countryside.

Andy and Rebecca celebrated their special day with their nearest and dearest and had their children standing by their sides. Their son was a page boy, Rebecca’s lovely daughters were bridesmaids and her son was a groomsman. Of course, we can’t forget their beloved four-legged family member, Red the Jack Russell, who thoroughly enjoyed a day of strokes and cuddles.

The gorgeous bride and her handsome groom took their vows in the elaborately decorated ceremony room, overlooking the pretty courtyard. The room was adorned with charming bunting and a twinkling disco ball, with Halloween pumpkins lining the isle. If this isn’t a sign of an October wedding, we don’t know what is! The wedding featured an abundance of beautiful flowers by the talented Mandie Knowles of Designer Blooms Florist (www.designerbloomsflorist.co.uk). The bride’s bouquet and hair piece followed along a vintage theme, featuring warm pinks and reds, urban oranges, deep purples and splashes of blue with hints of elegant sparkle. In her vintage dress, surrounded by brilliant colours and simply radiating happiness, Rebecca looked truly dazzling. Adding to the special occasion, a rainbow even decided to grace us with its colourful presence.

The lovely couple spent their first moments as newlyweds strolling around the countryside of Ta Mill, exploring the gardens and having wonderfully romantic photos taken by Indigo Wild Studio. Ta Mill made the perfect backdrop, with its enchanting trees and rustic autumnal foliage. The celebration continued with fun and games, canapés, and of course music.

The reception was a great success. Table places were set out with vintage crockery and lovely handmade candles in vintage tea cups. The newlyweds and their guests enjoyed a delicious hog roast, catered by Charlie Cole of Kernow Hog Roast. Later guests were treated to a heavenly dessert of crepes, provided by Pleased to Sweet You. The cream layered naked wedding cake, embellished with berries and flowers and presented on top of a rustic log, was breathtaking.

Andy and Rebecca’s wedding day was so beautiful; we were truly delighted to have been able to host and help them with their special day, and the creation of memories they will treasure for the rest of their happy lives together.

Blog – Laura and Michael’s Wedding

Last September, Ta Mill was over the moon to see university sweet hearts, Laura and Michael, get married here at our exclusive hire wedding venue.

Laura, living in Reading, wanted to come home to her Cornish roots at St Clether, only two miles away from Ta Mill, in order to get married in her home county. The ceremony took place in Ta Mill’s courtyard room which had wooden arches adorned by blue hydrangeas, home grown flowers and foliage collected from the site – all decorated and arranged by Laura’s talented Mum, Vanda.

After the ceremony, the happy couple and their guests enjoyed canapés and bubbly in the courtyard, where photographers Natalie and her husband from Iconik Photography took the opportunity to capture the happy and joyous moment.

The reception for 80 guests was held in a stunning marquee provided by Hatch Marquees. The frame marquee boasted clear sides in order to allow the guests to enjoy Ta Mill’s spectacular views whilst they tucked into their afternoon tea. The Good Food Catering Company catering provided a range of tasty sandwiches, cakes, sweets, tea & coffee – which everyone loved, finishing off the delicious treats.

In the evening, the couple provided a free bar, managed by the staff at Ta Mill. There was an array of drinks ranging from Spicy Rum Cocktails, to Bombay Sapphire Gin and Tonics to St Austell beers, as well as the very long Penpont, brewed only a few minutes away from Ta Mill. Alongside the free flowing drinks was the Ceilidh Band, “Spinach for Norman”, who played music throughout the evening with band member, Howard Harrison, encouraging and cheering on the guests while they danced.

Later, a Cornish favourite made an appearance as the guests tucked into Cornish pasties while they made use of Ta Mill’s games room. Pool and tennis tournaments went long into the night, before the guests settled into Ta Mill’s cosy and luxurious lodges and cottages.

The wedding was a relaxing yet fun celebration of Laura and Michael’s love, filled with traditional Cornish produce, food and entertainment, all within a classic Cornish setting.

Mother Vanda left a wonderful note for us on Facebook, stating:

“My daughter has just had the most wonderful wedding at Ta Mill. From the initial planning to clearing up the day after, we cannot fault the care and dedication given by Helen and her team. All of our needs were more than met in such a kind, friendly and understanding manner. It is a beautiful venue and I would recommend it to anyone.”

We are over the moon to hear that Laura & Michael enjoyed their wedding at Ta Mill and that we even have the mother-of-the-bride’s approval! This was one of our favourite weddings, couples and guests of 2016. We hope to be able to host more weddings like Laura & Michael’s in 2017 and beyond.

Blog – Gemma & Dan’s Wedding

If there’s one thing we love more than a wedding itself, it’s meeting all the wonderful people involved, especially the bride and groom. In May 2016, we were delighted to host the wedding of Gemma and Dan, a lovely couple from London. With Gemma’s parents living in Callington, we were honoured to host the perfect Cornish wedding especially for them here at Ta Mill.

Their special day started with a traditional church ceremony with a breathtaking gospel choir, joined by close friends and family. Gemma wore a stunning white Pronovias gown, which showed off her beautiful figure and her bridesmaids adorned sophisticated and elegant grey lace dresses.

The newly wed couple and their guests returned to Ta Mill, where they had a large personalised marquee created for them by the wonderfully talented team at Absolute Canvas.

Gemma and Dan brought some of their London lifestyle to Cornwall by having London Underground tickets and maps as table markers.

We at Ta Mill added our own touch by including straw bales outside in order for everyone to enjoy the mild weather and the beautiful countryside.

Photographer, Dan Ward, took full advantage of the mature gardens and dramatic trees found within Ta Mill’s ground to take some truly beautiful shots of the happy couple.

In the evening, band “Decade” played in the marquee, starting with “Marry you” by Bruno Mars as the happy couple’s first dance. Canapés were served in the sunny courtyard area and a hog roast was wheeled into the marquee for guests to enjoy with a wonderful array of salads. The fabulous wedding breakfast was then finished off with scrumptious strawberry, cream and brownies for dessert, all brilliantly catered for by Piglet cottage.

60 of Gemma & Dan’s 130 guests decided to stay 2 nights with us and made full use of the pitch n putt, swim spa and hot tub during their stay. We love seeing our facilities being used by family and friends making memories in a fun and carefree atmosphere.

It was a privilege to meet Gemma, Dan, their family and friends and it was one of the most beautiful weddings we have seen. We were so lucky to have been the ones to host it in our stunning, exclusive hire, Cornish wedding venue. Find out more about Weddings at Ta Mill here.
