• Abbie and James’ wedding – A Fabulous Friday

Abbie and James’ wedding – A Fabulous Friday

We had the pleasure of meeting and hosting the wedding of this gorgeous couple originally from Bolton but living in Cornwall and it was definitely a weekend to remember.

Guests arrived at Ta Mill on Thursday night and enjoyed a get-to-gether with a few drinks and a cornish pasty (or 2) along with informal drinks after they settled into their cottage or lodge.  On the Friday, after a morning relaxing and getting ready, the ceremony took place on the lawns with vows promised under the pegoda in the bright sunshine of a beautiful September day.  Abbie and her bridesmaids were pampered by Stephanie from Bliss Hair studio and Hannah who did a super job with hair and make-up. With a grey and blush pink theme the decorations were subtle and seasonal and complimented the luscious gardens.   A fabulous garland adorned the pegoda and there were fantastic floral displays in the churns, along with the brides bouquet and bridesmaids posies all created by Flower Scene.   The sun shone down on the celebrations as guests were treated to Aperol Spirtz and a stunning display of charcuterie, dressed crab and carpaccio all prepared on wood fired grills in the courtyard area by WoodFired Weddings.  More food delights followed with the wedding breakfast of slow roasted smoked beef and chargrilled lobster tails being served in a marquee on the lawns.

Under the warmth of the September sunshine the guests returned to the courtyard for an alfresco late afternoon of dancing and celebrating to the wonderful sounds of Front Cover, a 3 piece acoustic duo followed by Mike from Ocean City DJ’s who kept the party going until midnight in the courtyard room.  The next day, guests were treated to brunch from The Shellfish Pig followed by rounders on the lawns.  All in all, a fun time was had by all over a three day celebration with guests making their way home on the Sunday morning after a thoroughly enjoyable time.

“Thank you so much we had such an amazing day/weekend” Mr and Mrs Catherall.

  • Gemma & Dan’s Wedding

    Gemma & Dan’s Wedding

If there’s one thing we love more than a wedding itself, it’s meeting all the wonderful people involved, especially the bride and groom. In May 2016, we were delighted to host the wedding of Gemma and Dan, a lovely couple from London. With Gemma’s parents living in Callington, we were honoured to host the perfect Cornish wedding especially for them here at Ta Mill.

Their special day started with a traditional church ceremony with a breathtaking gospel choir, joined by close friends and family. Gemma wore a stunning white Pronovias gown, which showed off her beautiful figure and her bridesmaids adorned sophisticated and elegant grey lace dresses.

The newly wed couple and their guests returned to Ta Mill, where they had a large personalised marquee created for them by the wonderfully talented team at Absolute Canvas.

Gemma and Dan brought some of their London lifestyle to Cornwall by having London Underground tickets and maps as table markers.

We at Ta Mill added our own touch by including straw bales outside in order for everyone to enjoy the mild weather and the beautiful countryside.

Photographer, Dan Ward, took full advantage of the mature gardens and dramatic trees found within Ta Mill’s ground to take some truly beautiful shots of the happy couple.

In the evening, band “Decade” played in the marquee, starting with “Marry you” by Bruno Mars as the happy couple’s first dance. Canapés were served in the sunny courtyard area and a hog roast was wheeled into the marquee for guests to enjoy with a wonderful array of salads. The fabulous wedding breakfast was then finished off with scrumptious strawberry, cream and brownies for dessert, all brilliantly catered for by Piglet cottage.

60 of Gemma & Dan’s 130 guests decided to stay 2 nights with us and made full use of the pitch n putt, swim spa and hot tub during their stay. We love seeing our facilities being used by family and friends making memories in a fun and carefree atmosphere.

It was a privilege to meet Gemma, Dan, their family and friends and it was one of the most beautiful weddings we have seen. We were so lucky to have been the ones to host it in our stunning, exclusive hire, Cornish wedding venue. Find out more about Weddings at Ta Mill here.

  • Laura & Michael’s Wedding

    Laura & Michael’s Wedding

Last September, Ta Mill was over the moon to see university sweet hearts, Laura and Michael, get married here at our exclusive hire wedding venue.

Laura, living in Reading, wanted to come home to her Cornish roots at St Clether, only two miles away from Ta Mill, in order to get married in her home county. The ceremony took place in Ta Mill’s courtyard room which had wooden arches adorned by blue hydrangeas, home grown flowers and foliage collected from the site – all decorated and arranged by Laura’s talented Mum, Vanda.

After the ceremony, the happy couple and their guests enjoyed canapés and bubbly in the courtyard, where photographers Natalie and her husband from Iconik Photography took the opportunity to capture the happy and joyous moment.

The reception for 80 guests was held in a stunning marquee provided by Hatch Marquees. The frame marquee boasted clear sides in order to allow the guests to enjoy Ta Mill’s spectacular views whilst they tucked into their afternoon tea. The Good Food Catering Company catering provided a range of tasty sandwiches, cakes, sweets, tea & coffee – which everyone loved, finishing off the delicious treats.

In the evening, the couple provided a free bar, managed by the staff at Ta Mill. There was an array of drinks ranging from Spicy Rum Cocktails, to Bombay Sapphire Gin and Tonics to St Austell beers, as well as the very long Penpont, brewed only a few minutes away from Ta Mill. Alongside the free flowing drinks was the Ceilidh Band, “Spinach for Norman”, who played music throughout the evening with band member, Howard Harrison, encouraging and cheering on the guests while they danced.

Later, a Cornish favourite made an appearance as the guests tucked into Cornish pasties while they made use of Ta Mill’s games room. Pool and tennis tournaments went long into the night, before the guests settled into Ta Mill’s cosy and luxurious lodges and cottages.

The wedding was a relaxing yet fun celebration of Laura and Michael’s love, filled with traditional Cornish produce, food and entertainment, all within a classic Cornish setting.

Mother Vanda left a wonderful note for us on Facebook, stating:

“My daughter has just had the most wonderful wedding at Ta Mill. From the initial planning to clearing up the day after, we cannot fault the care and dedication given by Helen and her team. All of our needs were more than met in such a kind, friendly and understanding manner. It is a beautiful venue and I would recommend it to anyone.”

We are over the moon to hear that Laura & Michael enjoyed their wedding at Ta Mill and that we even have the mother-of-the-bride’s approval! This was one of our favourite weddings, couples and guests of 2016. We hope to be able to host more weddings like Laura & Michael’s in 2017 and beyond.
